Definition of fire and explosion. Description of the process of burning. Thermodynamics. Heat conduction, convection and irradiation. Temperature distribution field and its influence upon the building constructions. Pressure distribution field and shock waves, their origination and propagation. Tension and stress in building constructions and materials due to shock waves and high temperatures. Modeling of the development of fire. Principles of fire extinguishing.

The exercises will take a form of visits to Technical institute of fire protection in Prague and Fire research institute in Veseli nad Luznici.
- Study Objective:

Students will get acquainted with basic principles of origination and development of fire and explosion, consequences of stress in building constructions and materials caused by high temperatures, and with principles of fire extinguishing.
