Synopsis:

The course deals with the following items.

Non-destructive evaluation of structural timber and timber

members. Fracture mechanics in timber engineering. Fatigue

design for timber and wood-based materials. Mathematical

modelling as a tool for test method design. System reliability

of timber components and structures. Advanced modelling of

timber member connections. Timber concrete composite

structures. A hybrid deterministic and stochastic approach to

inelastic modelling and analysis of timber structures.

Simulation-based reliability assessment in design of timber

structures.

1. Evaluation of structural timber and engineered timber products.

2. Fracture mechanics in timber engineering.

3. Simulation-based reliability assesment in design of timber structures.

4. Notched members and members with holes.

5. Special connections using steel elements.

6. Moment resisting joints.

7. Diaphragms and shear walls.

8. Roundwood structures.

9. Spatial frames and shell roof structures.

10. Timber bridges.

11. Repair and strengthening of timber structures.

12. Timber structures in aggresive environments and seismic areas.

13. Fatigue design for timber and wood-based materials. Learning from failures.

14. Computer aided design and manufacturing.
