BIOMECHANICS AND BIOMATERIAL ENGINEERING

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Fundamental principles in biomechanics. Theory of chaos and order.

2. Biological structural levels in hard tissue.

3. Elastic and viscoelastic properties of biological materials.

4. Composites and biocomposites.

5. Bone modelling and remodelling.

6. Stoichiometric equations, kinetical equations of biochemical processes.

7. Steady states, bifurgation points, nonlinearities, speed of biochemical processes.

8. Stress/strain tensors as initiators of reconstruction processes.

9. Orthopedical biomechanics, stomatological biomechanics.

10. Hip replacements of the 1st and 2nd generation.

11. Replacements with the gradient of elastic properties.

12. Regulation of tissue properties, mediator films (collagen+proteoglycans).

13. Regulation of biocompatibility, ion implantation of replacement surfaces.

14. Experimental biomechanics - the future approaches. Genetical fund.

Syllabus of tutorials:
Study Objective:

Students will get acquainted with regulations of tissue modeling/remodeling and micromodeling in vivo by stress/strain changes, composite hybrid replacements and application of finite element methods.
