The course brings deeper view on building materials, their properties and using in building structures. Building materials clasification. New building materials, composites, light-weight materials, plastics. Choosing of the suitable materials in the design. Evaluation of materials in laboratory.

Before passing this course it is required to have passed course 123BUM1.
- Syllabus of lectures:

Technical requirements for building materials in particular types of structures. Criteria for selection of materials. Durability of materials in structure. Compatibility of materials. Evaluation of materials.
Masonry units and the other building units in structures of civil engineering. Quality of factory production and factory production control. Certification of products in industry of building materials.
Rendering and plastering mortars. External renders and internal plasters. Mortars for renovation. Thermal insulating mortars.
Coating mortars and special mortars. Polymercement mortars. Protected layers, renewal side face materials.
Light-weigt concrete, types and using. Foamed materials. Light-weight composites.
Material design of energy efficient buildings. Plastics in building structures. Fibre composites and laminates.Polymerconcretes. Injection materials. Surface finish of structures and their protection against the aggresive enviroment.
Evaluation of materials in laboratory. Problems of material exploration. Testing of performance of new materials. Perspective and non-traditional materials.
