The course introduces more complex grammatical structures and their application as found in subtechnical, technical, and popular science texts. The topics covered are, e.g., the relation between technology and society, the world at the beginning of the 21st century, the environment, the language of mathematics and computers, car technology. Students practice reading for information and reading aloud and both written and oral skills. The course systematically revises grammatical phenomena important for professional discourse (participles, relative clauses).

The course is run as a series of seminars following the topics and scope of the syllabus mentioned above.
- Study Objective:

Knowledge:
Morphology, syntax, and lexis at the level appropriate to the course, particularly irregular verbs, participles, gerund, abbreviations; fundamental terms in mathematics and physics.
Skills:
To use the acquired knowledge in everyday communication and in more professional contexts, namely to explain thermonuclear fusion, express units and operations in mathematics and physics.
