Synopsis:

Production and forming of ion beam, charged particle optics, interaction of ion with solid matter, technological and analytical applications.

Requirements:

Classical mechanics, electrodynamics

Syllabus of lectures:

Ionization processes, ion sources.

Ion beam forming, characteristics of ion beam. Ion Beam transport, ion optics elements, matrix formalism, lenses, bending magnets, electrostatic prisms, mirrors. Equipment with ion beam.

Phenomena at ion beam bombardment of solid matter. Transport of ions in matter, stopping power, range, channeling, radiation damage, ion sputtering; applicatioons. Ion beam analyses.

Study Objective:

Knowledge of ion optics and applications of ion beams to modifications and analysis of solids.

Ability to understand equipment with ion beam.
