The objective of the study is to point out the significance of SME for regional development. There is analysed the entrepreneurial environment, individuality of the entrepreneur, legislative conditions for business activities, weaknesses of SME and threats sequent to both, the Single European Market and the natural SME opportunities. The „Mortality Model“ shows the life cycle of SMEs. There is underlined the interaction between municipalities and SME. There is introduced the system of taxation of the entrepreneur concerning the income tax and insurance payment. Further there is presented the tax liability of the Czech entrepreneur compared with other countries.

The objective of the course is to educate students in business field, to teach them business skills and to support and develop their business thinking. Another goal is to give students a comprehensive look at business of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and to teach them how to avoid making mistakes that can cause SMEs failure.
