Synopsis:

Students shall spread more their knowledge about the mining and transport of the earth gas. They are able to design long gas pipelines and/or domestic low-pressure gas pipings. They know to design gas heat plants and gas cogeneration plants with gas piston enegines or gas turbinek (in ope nor closed cycles). They are able to project non-typical solutions of gas - steam combined cycles or organic Rankin cycles for alternative energy sources use.

Requirements:

Knowledge of district heating, basic options use planning. Knowledge of basic hydraulic calculations networks, pipe stress analysis of overhead and underground pipelines. Proposal for transfer stations.

Syllabus of lectures:

Types and composition of natural gas. Low and upper calorific values. World natural gas sources. Mining and transport of natural gas. Long distance gas transport by piping. Dimensioning of gas pipelines and compression plants. Domestic low pressure gas piping. Diffusion and kinetic gas burning. Atmospheric and pressure burners, surplus of air. Heat cycle of gas engine and of gas turbine (open cycle - closed cycle). Thermal and total efficiency of cycles. Combined gas-steam cycle. Low temperature Rankin cycle with organic heat transfer medium for alternative energy use.

Syllabus of tutorials:

Draft pressure dependent and independent heat-tranfer stations. Proposal for preparation of DHW. Dimensioning pipeline gas connections.

Study Objective:

The aim is to obtain an overview in the field of district heating and the latest trends in this field. Another aim is to show the basic calculations in the design of heat-transfer stations, district heating, hydraulic, and economic strength. They will learn how to dimension the distribution of natural gas.
