- Synopsis:
-
Study the subject of toxicology as a multidisciplinary science that focuses on examining the negative impact of chemicals on living organisms. This course acquaints students with the basics of toxicology, which can be used to solve various incidents are bonded with a significant release of toxic substances. On this subject continues in the 2nd year subject entitled „Toxicological aspects of chemical accidents and misuse of chemical weapons,“ which acquaints students with the possible types of chemical accidents, their course, threats to the environment, life and health of the population and the principles of prevention and liquidation.
The course will be the relationship between the chemical and its toxicity, safe working with chemicals, toxicokinetics, toxic interactions with the organism, the clinical manifestations of intoxication, the possibility of quantitative determination and testing of toxic effects of chemicals. In the special part is the emphasis on toxins that lead to frequent dangerous poisons and poisoning.
- Requirements:
-
Exam prerequisites: To obtain the credit requires 86% attendance at seminars (perhaps one absence). Another condition is the processing of paper on an assigned topic, including its presentation at seminars (presentation 20 - 25 min. On a given topic, a presentation prepared in PowerPoint).
Requirements for testing: Compliance with the requirements for the credit. The exam is oral. Thematic areas for the test match odpřednášeným topics of lectures are given in the methodological manual. The test may apply only to students who have been granted credit. Retake the test is at least a week apart.
- Syllabus of lectures:
-
Introduction to Toxicology, definition of the subject, definitions and basic concepts of toxicology. The distribution and toxicological classification of chemical substances.
Relations between the chemical structure of substances and toxicological effects, factors influencing toxic effect.
Toxicokinetics and biotransformation of chemicals in the body.
Mechanisms of action of toxic chemicals.
Clinical signs of intoxication.
General principles of treatment of poisoning.
Toxicologically significant synthetic poisons.
Toxicologically significant natural poisons (toxins).
- Syllabus of tutorials:
-
Toxicitní parameters and selective toxicity.
Methods of experimental toxicology.
Adsorption, distribution, biotransformation and excretion of chemicals.
The effect of chemical substances on the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, liver and kidneys, the immune system, the nervous system, in hematopoiesis and blood, the production of energy in the cell.
First aid for intoxication, non-specific and specific therapy.
- Study Objective:
-
To acquaint students with the history of toxicology, its breakdown and contemporary significance. The subject shows the relationship between chemicals and their toxicity, working with chemicals safely, toxic kinetics, toxic substances interrex organism, clinical symptoms of intoxication, and the possibility of quantification and testing of toxic effects of chemicals in the laboratory. The special section emphasizes the toxins that lead to frequent dangerous poisons and poisoning (carbon monoxide, ethanol, drugs, pharmaceuticals, plant poisons, chemical warfare, and inorganic poisons).
