Synopsis:

The subject discusses deals with evaluation of mobile networks and their future development. Students will obtain knowledge in network architecture and protocols used in these networks, they will learn about features and modifications that are introduced into the core and access networks. Furthermore, wireless local and metropolitan networks are described.

Requirements:

1. Architecture of wired and wireless networks, layers, planes.

2. Structure of wireless networks, cell networks, frequency planning.

3. Sharing of transmission media, multiplexing methods.

4. Optimization of data transmission at physical and link layers.

5. Handover, power control, access to the network in mobile networks.

6. Mesh and AdHoc networks.

7. Cordless telephones, generation and features.

8. Generation of mobile networks, standardization.

9. 2G mobile networks (network architecture, features, and services).

10. 3G mobile networks (network architecture, features, and services).

11. Future of mobile networks (network architecture, features, and services).

12. Local wireless networks, access to the medium (WiFi).

13. Metropolitan wireless networks, access to the medium (WiMAX).

14. Future of wired and wireless networks, convergence of networks.
