- Synopsis:

The subject discusses principles of the telecommunication systems both digital transmission systems and digital switching systems. The subject will allow students to gain overview in broad telecommunication domain and they will be able to solve partial problems related with network traffic. Furthermore, students will also obtain knowledge in VoIP technology, QoS and signaling systems that are used in modern wired and wireless networks.

1. Telephone channel, voice signal processing, Frame E1.
2. Backbone transmission systems and networks.
3. PDH, SDH, OTH transmission systems.
4. Architecture of digital switching systems, subscribers lines, ISDN.
5. Switching networks type S and T, signaling.
6. Synchronisation in networks, distribution of clocks in networks, creation of slips.
7. Next generation network (NGN).
8. Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), TCP/IP networks.
9. Technology VoIP. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). Quality of service (QoS).
10. Generation of mobile networks.
11. Basic principles of communication and signaling in mobile networks.
12. Access networks, types and features.
13. Digital Subscribe Line (xDSL) systems and their applications.
14. Wireless access networks.
