Synopsis:

The aim of this course is to familiarize students with the practical design of communication systems. Subject further continues with explanation of system design procedures and requirements on its parts. It all with respecting of theirs EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility). The key part of lessons is laboratory measurements and work on projects, where the students will be dealing with design, construction, configuration and measurement of communication system blocks.

Syllabus of lectures:

1.Introduction. Programmable digital, analog and mixed circuits for communication devices.

2.Parameters of internal and external interfaces of telecommunication systems.

3.Assembly and wiring, mechanical construction of telecommunication systems.

4.Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and its legislation and standardization.

5.Electromagnetic interference (EMI) - testing procedures.

6.Electromagnetic Susceptibility (EMS) - testing procedures.

7.Structural and circuit design of transmission systems.

8.Structural and circuit design of switching systems.

9.Structural and circuit design of mobile and cordless phones.

10.Structural and circuit design of transmission systems for access networks.

11.Action research - development - production by telecommunication devices.

12.Over-voltage protection; basic of communication wiring and power distribution.

13.Biological aspects of EMC.

14.EMC of Intelligent buildings.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1.Introduction. Labour protection. Individual project Nr. 1 definition: „Optical communication“. Individual project Nr. 2 definition: „Programble integrated circuits“

2.Surface mount technology (SMT) and excursion (Developement laboratory CTU FEE Prague); Methodology of EMI and EMS measurements .

3. Grounding and shielding, application of blocking and filtration elements.

4. Consultations Individual project Nr. 1 definition: „Optical communication“. Individual project Nr. 2 definition: „Programble integrated circuits“.

5. Practical laboratory - Surface mount technology (SMT).

6. Basic measurements of device immunity.

7. Measurements of LF and HF interference (wiring and field). Signal and noise in RFID.

8. Measurement of parallel lines (signal and power line) interference. Electromagnetic shielding.

9. Measurement of continuous and discontinuous intreference.

10. Measurement of basic GSM parameters.

11. Consultations: Individual project Nr. 1 definition: „Optical communication“, Individual project Nr. 2 definition: „Programble integrated circuits“.

12. Classification: Individual project Nr. 1 definition: „Optical communication“, Individual project Nr. 2 definition: „Programble integrated circuits“.

13. Final test.
