Supervisor:
Department of medical branches and humanities
Synopsis:

The course focuses on acquainting students with the basics of chemistry and biochemistry to clarify the chemical structure, properties and reactions of substances that form the basis of living organisms. It is focused on the principles of textile and energy transformations in organisms. The goal is to learn the basics of Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry and descriptive understanding of autonomous and coupled metabolic processes associated with exchange of materials and energy gain and subject to regulatory influence.

Requirements:

For the award of credit is required 80% attendance at seminars. Another condition is the processing of paper on a given topic, including presentations. It is a written test with the chosen form of response. The test may apply only to students who have been granted credit. Retake the test is also writing with at least one week apart. Thematic areas of the test match odpřednášeným topics of lectures. The test may apply only to students who have been granted credit. The test contains a total of 30 test questions:

score:

30 to 29 correct answers = 1 (A)

28 to 27 correct answers = 1.5 (B)

26 to 24 correct answers = 2 (C)

23 to 22 correct answers = 2.5 (D)

21 to 19 correct answers = 3 (E)

18 correct answers = 4 (F)

Syllabus of lectures:

Importance of biochemistry in medical fields (the definition of biochemical fields - Pathobiochemistry, Clinical Biochemistry), biochemistry of the cell (cellular organelles, cell membrane - membrane transport).

The composition of living organisms (biogenic elements - makrobiogenní, mikrobiogenní, basic organic compounds of living matter - nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates, lipids).

Xenobiochemistry (classification of toxic substances, factors influencing toxic effect toxikinetika, the mechanism of toxic effect, clinical manifestations of intoxication).

General principles of metabolism (metabolic events, Krebs cycle), differences in metabolism between organisms and their importance; Hereditary metabolic disorders.

Enzymes (enzyme molecule structure, principles of action, the names of enzymes, enzyme utilization in diagnosis).

Water and minerals (water distribution, major ions, water loss), Acid-Base Balance and its disorders.

Vitamins and hormones, free radicals and antioxidants.
