Synopsis:

Course provides students with basic administrative terms and tasks on UNIX and MS Windows operating systems. Students will get skills to understand and configure basic components of an OS on a PC hardware platform.

Requirements:

There is a required limit of the total sum of points from labs and final exam.

Active knowledge of Y36UOS lectures is assumed and required.

1. OS administration principals, administrator rights and their obtaining.

2. Users administration, name services.

3. System shutdown and startup. Process init.

4. Disk subsystem administration. Swap.

5. Filesystem administration.

6. Ecryption and authentization, cryptography in network protocols.

7. Securing OS UNIX.

8. Windows installation, configuration and patch management.

9. Resources administration and access rights.

10. Administration and performance tools.

11. Windows network administration.

12. Backup, troubleshooting and security.

13. Active Directory and Group Policy.

14. Windows administration in the heterogeneous environment.
