Synopsis:

Digital computer units - their structure, function and hardware implementation ALU, control unit, memory system, inputs, outputs, data storage and transfer. Combinatorial and sequential circuits design. Basic properties and structure of computer networks LAN and WAN.

Requirements:

Elaboration of laboratoty tasks.

Succesfull test results.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Computer types, units and connections

2. Data, storage and processing

3. Arithmetic operations

4. Logic circuits - description, combinatorial components, gate level design

5. Sequential circuits realization

6. Typical combinatorial and sequential components of computer (coders, adders, counters, registers)

7. Arithmetic operation realization

8. Memories - structure, static and dynamic memory

9. Computer memory system

10. Input-output components

11. Instruction and machine code

12. Control units

13. CISC and RISC type processors

14. Computer networks LAN and WAN type. Internet

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Number systems and conversions

2. Representation of negative numbers and arithmetic operations, fixed point and floating point numbers

3. Lab. Combinatorial components design and implementation

4. Lab. Sequential components realization and implementation

5. Lab. Work with simple microprocessor, design tools.

6. Lab. Work with simple microprocessor, application.

7. Test, credit

Study Objective:

Obtain an overview and practice essential problems of microprocesor technique.
