Synopsis:

Black holes and gravitational collapse. Astrophysics of black holes. General relativity in other branches of physics and astrophysics. Linearised theory of gravitation, gravitational waves.

Requirements:

Knowledge of general relativity is presumed on the level of lectures 02OR and 02REL1.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Schwarzschild solution of Einstein equations.

2. Analytical extension of Schwarzschild metric.

3. More general solutions of Einstein equations describing stationary black holes.

4.-5. Gravitational collapse.

6.-8. Physics and astrophysics of black holes.

9.-10. Other branches of physics in general relativistic formulation.

11.-12. Linearised theory of gravitation, gravitational waves.

Syllabus of tutorials:

Solving exercises on the following topics:

1. Schwarzschild solution of Einstein equations.

2. Analytical extension of Schwarzschild metric.
