Synopsis:

The subject expands knowledge obtained in precedent studies on such issues as network planning, network design, network constructions and network operation. The attention is further given to the legislation in telecommunications and to the business aspects of telecommunications.

Requirements:

Assessment conditions: presence, successful check test and successful presentation of the semester project.

The exam is written and oral. The minimum requirement is 60% correct answers to the given questions.

1.Introduction. Telecommunication network and its structure.

2. Fundamentals of telecommunications network planning.

3. Fundamentals of telecommunications network design.

4. Telecommunications networks construction and operations.

5. Telecommunication services.

6. Management of telecommunications networks and services.

7. Business planning of telecommunications operator.

8. Telecommunications services market.

9. Telecommunications services market segments management

10. Telecommunications legislation - state administration

11. Telecommunications legislation - regulation and liberalization

12. Telecommunications equipment market.

13. Operating of the company?s telecommunications infrastructure

14. Case studies analysis. Predictions of further development. Conclusions.

1. Introduction. Content of the exercises. Organizational issues. Assessment assignment conditions.

2. Telecommunication companies evaluation. Assignment of task 1 (Evaluation of world leading telecommunication company).

3. Network planning - numerical exercises.

4. Network design - rules and regulations.

5. Network design - practical fundamentals. Assignment of Task 2 (Project documentation elaboration).

6. Telecommunication product development.

7. Telephone services billing.

8. Data transfer services.

9. Optimization of the telecommunication infrastructure of the company.

10. Calculation of the recovery of investment in the telecommunications equipment.

11. Change management in telecommunications.

12. Evaluation of world leading telecommunication company - presentation I (Task 1 exhibits).

13. Evaluation of world leading telecommunication company - presentation II (Task 1 exhibits).

14. Compensatory exercise. Assessment.

Study Objective:

Student will understand relations between technology, market and legislation, their well-balanced relations are the basis of todays successful operation of telecommunication networks. Students will acquire some skills to use in operational practice
