The cours presents basic medical imaging systems and their properties, including X-rays, digital angiography, computed tomography, gamma cameras, SPECT, PET, and infrared sensors. We shall also study the algorithms of image analysis and enhancement and reconstruction algorithms.

1. Image processing, medical imaging. Digital image and its
properties. Relation to signal processing.
2. Intensity transformations, pointwise corrections. Geometric
transformations.
3. Preprocessing. Linear integral transforms, especially Fourier transform.
4. Noise, properties and reduction, linear and non-linear filtering in
image space. Frequency filtering.
5. Image restoration.
6. Interpolation, similarity criteria.
7. Edge, corner and local structure detection.
8. Mathematical morphology.
9. Image acquisition, transparent and non-transparent objects. Thermal
imaging, hardware.
10. Colour.
11. Image compression.
12. Optical microscopy, fluorescent microscopy, electron microscopy.
13. X-rays, physical principles, sources and detectors.
14. Electroencephalography, magnetoencephalography.
