Basic terms in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Kinds of disturbing signals, their sources and propagation. Low- frequency (LF) disturbances in electric devices, interaction between electric devices and mains. High -frequency (HF) disturbances and their restrictions. Immunity of electric devices against LF and HF disturbances. Electrostatic discharges, sources, means of protection. Technical requirements on electric devices with respect to EMC effects.

The attendance at practices is obligatory. The necessary conditions for obtaining the assessment is elaboration of all assigned problems. A student has to obtain the assessment before the examination.

1. EMC- basic terms. Interaction between semiconductor converters and mains.
2. Interaction between electric apparatus and mains - LF disturbances.
3. Compensation and filtration of LF disturbances.
4. Sources of disturbances, their propagation and couplings.
5. Electric and electronic switches as sources of overvoltages and RF disturbances.
6. Means of RF conducted disturbances limiting.
7. Methods of measurement and analysis of disturbing signals spectrum.
8. RF radiated disturbances, limiting tools.
9. EMC testing - emission measurements.
10.EMC testing - immunity measurements.
11.Impulse disturbances, lightning and overvoltage protection.
12.Electrostatic discharge - origin, effects, protection.
13.Standardisation in EMC range.
14.EMC assessments. EU requirements for products on the market.

5.+6. Measurement and analysis of non-harmonic current of voltage rectifiers.

9.+10. Measurement of harmonics current emissions and mitigation means, emissions of RF conducted disturbances of power converter.
11.+12. Measurement of line disturbances immunity. UPS function.
13.+14. Evaluation of measurements and protocols. The assessment.
