Synopsis:

1st part: Methods of measurement of electrical quantities (voltage, current, power, frequency, resistance, capacitance and inductance), measuring transducers, DA and DA converters, electrical and electronic measuring instruments, digital instruments. 2nd part: Test and measurement methods in digital technology. Standard instruments for digital device testing and methods of their use.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

The literature [1] will be referred during the lectures. The lectures will run first 7 weeks for 2 hours.

1. Accuracy of measurement. Analogue meters (overview).

2. Measuring transducers URU, IRU, URI, converters of average and RMS value, analogue multipliers

3. DACs, successive approximation ADCs and flash ADCs

4. Dual-slope and S-D ADC, digital multimeters

5. Current, voltage and power measurements

6. Measurement of frequency, time interval and phase shift.

7. Measurement of resistance (R), impedance and admittance (L-R, C-G)

8. Analogue scopes, features, parameters, and accessories.

9. Digital scopes, features, parameters, and accessories.

10. Methods of scope measurements in digital circuits.

11. Logic analysers, features, parameters, and accessories.

12. Methods of logic analyser measurements in digital circuits.

13. Processor and bus analysis using logic analyser.

14. Scope and logic analyser collaboration, digital pattern generators.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Introduction, safety in lab. Voltage divider.

2. DC power measurement using voltmeter and ammeter. Measuring amplifiers

3. Measuring rectifier. Principle of signal sampling

4. DACs. Successive approximation ADC

5. Dual slope DVM. Measurement of one-phase active power

6. Measurement of frequency. Measurement of phase shift

7. Measurement of low resistances. Digital impedance meter

8. Influence of digital circuit technology on measurement methods and result interpretation.

9. Analogue scope in digital technology, measurement results and their interpretation.

10. Digital scope - demonstration of advanced functions.

11. Parallel bus analysis using logic analyser.

12. Microprocessor analysis using logic analyser.

13. Using digital pattern generator and logic analyser for digital circuit testing.

14. Discussion of results, assessment.
