Synopsis:

Computer peripheral devices interface techniques and software support. Buses and point-to-point connections. System bus and I/O bus standardisation. External memories. Principles of magnetic and optical storing techniques. Data organisation, coding and reliability improvement on external memory media. Typical interface standards. Output and input devices. Displays, printers, plotters. Keyboards, digitizers and tablets, scanners, audio and video input digitizers.

1. Input/output subsystem architecture

2. Principal differences in peripheral interfacing on different computer platforms (mainframe, mini, micro, etc.)

3. Interface bus standardisation

4. Channel: multiplexed, selector, adapter

5. Data coding techniques. Improvement at stored data reliability

6. External memories - basic principles

7. Magnetic and optical memories - technological solution

8. Promising technologies. External memory interface standardisation

9. Output devices: printers

10. Displays: electrooptical units

11. Displays: controller, standardisation

12. Plotters: interpolation, standardisation of SW interface

13. Input devices: keyboards, digitizers and tablets, mouses. Interface standardisation

14. Scanners, audio and video input devices
