Students will obtain the basic knowledge in a fundamental functional principles of the telecommunication systems, the digital transmission systems and signal processing theory. The main subjects are physical media parameters, access and backbone network technology, for example PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy), SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy), ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode), xDSL (Digital Subscribe Line) and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network).
- Requirements:
-
Conditions to obtain the credit: 100% presence at the practices, and elaboration of laboratory tasks.
- Syllabus of lectures:
-
1. Telecommunication services, wideband requirements, standardization.
2. Telephone channel, voice signal processing, PCM30/32, transmission systems PDH and SDH.
3. Backbone and access networks, data links, data interfaces.
4. OSI Reference model, protocol architectures, protocols TCP/IP.
5. xDSL systems, features and applications.
6. ISDN and ATM networks, features.
7. Digital exchange systems, switching networks type S and T.
8. Mobile and satellite systems.
- Syllabus of tutorials:
-
1. Logarithms, description of transmission chains.
2. Introduction to laboratory tasks.
3. Task 1 (Measurement of optical fiber).
4. Task 2 (ADSL - measurement on ADSL connections).
5. Task 3 (Voice over IP networks).
6. Check of elaborated tasks. Credit.
- Study Objective:
-
By completing the course the student obtains a general overview of the telecommunications systems including the principles and functions of digital telecommunications systems, both transmission and switching systems, ensuring voice and data services using copper, fiber and wireless transmission media.
