- Synopsis:

Students will obtain the basic knowledge in a fundamental functional principles of the telecommunication systems, the digital transmission systems and signal processing theory. The main subjects are physical media parameters, access and backbone network technology, for example PDH (Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy), SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy), ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode), xDSL (Digital Subscribe Line) and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network).

The credit shall require 100% attendance and submission of individual project.

1. Telecommunication services, wideband requirements, standardisation, telephone channel, voice signal processing, PCM30/32.
2. Multiplexing methods, PDH and SDH transmission systems.
3. Optical transmission systems - WDM systems.
4. Backbone and access networks, data links, data interfaces.
5. OSI Reference model, protocols architecture.
6. Digital switching systems - configuration and solution of DSN.
7. Telephone sets, modulation methods, telephone and xDSL modems.
