Lecturer:
Jiří Vodrážka (gar.), Jaromír Hrad, Pavel Troller
Tutor:
Jiří Hájek, Jaromír Hrad, Ján Kučerák, Miroslav Vondrák
Supervisor:
Department of Telecommunications Engineering
Synopsis:

Students will obtain the transmission technologies SDH (Synchronous Digital Hierarchy) and WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplex) used in telecommunication networks and functional principles of the transmission and digital switching systems used in NGN (Next generation network, VoIP). The main subjects are physical media parameters, access and backbone transmission technology, optical transmission systems.

Requirements:

The credit shall require 100% attendance and treatment of laboratory projects and submission of individual project. Evaluation of the exam consists of approximately 20% of the exercises, 30% individual project, 50% for their own exam.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Telecommunication services, wideband requirements, standardisation

2. Telephone channel, voice signal processing, PCM30/32

3. Multiplexing methods, PDH and SDH transmission systems

4. Optical transmission systems - DWDM

5. Backbone and access networks, data links, data interfaces

6. OSI Reference model, protocols architecture

7. ISDN networks

8. ATM networks

9. Physical media parameters, digital signal regeneration

10. Copper pairs, crosstalk, information capacity

11. Modulation methods, modems

12. xDSL systems, aplications

13. Optical access networks, hybrid networks, CATV

14. Wireless systems, mobile networks

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Basic review of important terms and definitions

2. Transmission and data system components

3. Parameters measurement in telecommunication systems

4. Bit error rate measurement

5. Introduction into a particular labs

6. Symmetric pair measurement

7. Fiber optic measurement

8. Noise resistant measurement

9. Data interface configuration on muldex

10. SDH muldex configuration

11. ADSL modem configuration

12. Test

13. Consultation

14. Credit

Study Objective:

Students will gain knowledge particularly in the technology backbone of optical systems, networks, switching and signaling systems. Students will learn to configure, monitor, test and design the transmission network.
