Synopsis:

Subject concerning with the definition, contents and disciplines of biomedical engineering. Survey of medical equipments, biopotentials, electrodes and biopotential amplifiers. Measurement of physiological quantities (vascular and respiratory system). Bedside monitors and central monitors. Clinical laboratory equipments. Modern imaging systems, equipments used in anestiology and critical helath care. Electrical safety rules for medical equipments.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

1. Biomedical engineering definition, contents and disciplines. Survey of medical equipments

2. Origin of biopotentials (ECG, EEG, EMG, EOG)

3. Electrodes for biopotential sensing, electrostimulation and therapeutical purposes

4. Biopotential amplifiers

5. Measurement of physiological quantities (vascular system)

6. Measurement of physiological quantities (respiratory system)

7. Bedside monitors and central monitors

8. Chemical and biochemical blood gass and body fluids analyzers

9. Clinical laboratory equipments

10. Medical imaging systems (X-ray, X-ray-TV, NMI, infra)

11. Modern medical imaging systems (DSA, CT, MRI, PET, SPECT)

12. Electrostimulators. Pacemakers, defibrilators, cardioverters

13. Gass mixture physics, applications within the equipments used in anestiology and critical health care

14. Electrical safety rules for medical equipment

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Demonstration and measurements of electrodes, their properties and applications

2. Typical measurements on biopotential amplifiers

3. Demonstration of bedside monitors, structure, alarms and typical applications

4. Fundamental biochemical computation within the biomedical engineering

5. Demonstration of ultrasound diagnostic and medical imaging systems

6. Educational videotapes - modern medical imaging systems (CT, MRI)

7. Demonstration of complex monitoring within the respiratory support
