Synopsis:

Oscillations, waves, electromagnetic waves, relativity, symmetry in physics, quantum theory, interactions.

Requirements:

Creation of two programs from the lecture topics, e.g. JAVA applet, symbolic programme, numerical simulation, etc.

Syllabus of lectures:

I. Oscillations; II. Waves; III. Electromagnetic waves; IV. Relativity; V. Symmetry in physics; VI. Quantum theory; VII. Interactions.

Syllabus of tutorials:

I. Matrices, eigenvalues, differential schemes, computer modeling of ordinary differential eqiuations. II. Wave packets, propagation, frequency (Fourier) analysis, wave spectrum. III. Solution of partial differential equations on computers, grid methods, final elements. IV. Heaviside field, motion of charged particles. 4D rotation. Generators of rotation and Lorentz group. Callibration symmetry. Particle in Cell method. Conservation laws. VI. Hilbert space, commutation relations. Quantum and Boolean logics, Dirac notation. Solution of Schrodinger equation on computer. Symbolic programming. VII. Creation and annihilation operators,m Feynman diagrams, programs for quantum theory.
