Synopsis:

The aim of the course is to master heat transfer laws and apply them in resistance heating devices design. The overview of the field of arc and special devices discussed. Theory of the electromagnetic field in real dielectric allows to design basic dielectric and microwave-based appliances. Theory of the thermal comfort of a human being allows the students to design electrical heating systems in interiors.

2. Navier-Stokes equation, physical similarity in thermal and velocity fields

3. Convection heat transfer

4. Radiant heat transfer

5. Zonal method

6. Direct resistance heating, theory, applications

7. Indirect resistance heating, theory, applications

8. Principles of the resistance furnace design, material assessment

9. Theory of dielectric heating

10. Dielectric and microwave appliances

11. Arc furnaces, connection to the power network

12. Laser, electron beam, and plasma electroheat devices

13. Thermal comfort of a human being

14. Electrical heating of interiors
