Synopsis:

The Department of Mechanics and Material Science K312 offers the course in the 1st semester of BSP. In the course are discussed relations between structure and properties of materials used in electro engineering, electronic and informatics fields. Progressive inorganic and organic semiconductors, insulators, magnetic materials, conductors, superconductors, optoelectronic materials, intelligent and structural materials are described. Basic guidelines for HOS are included.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

1.Basic guidelines for HOS. Importance of modern materials in the electronics, electro engineering and informatics.

2.Atom and molecules structures. Bonds between atoms and molecules.

3.Gas, liquid and solid states and their properties

4.Solid materials structures (monocrystals, polycrystals, amorphous materials, nanostructures, crystals defects).

5.Electronic structure of materials. The 3D conductivity (Ohms law) of bulk materials, thin layers, nanostructures.

6.Materials of conductors, contacts and resistors.

7.Inorganic and organic semiconductors.

8.Materials for optoelectronic communication, sensors and displays.

9.Dielectric and insulating materials

10.Special dielectrics and their applications in intelligent systems.

11.Magnetic materials and their applications.

12.Special magnetic materials (information storage, magneto resistive and magnetostrictive materials), applications.

13.Superconductors and their applications (Josephson effect, SQUID)

Syllabus of tutorials:

The material properties measurements complete the lectures content. The program is obligatory.

4.Laboratory. The conductivity of semiconductors, conductors as a temperature function.

5.Laboratory. The magnetic materials properties as a function of frequency and external magnetic field.

6.Laboratory. The magnetic materials properties as a function of frequency and external magnetic field.

7.Laboratory. The dielectric materials properties as a function of temperature and frequency.

8.Laboratory. The conductivity of a second-class conductor as a function of the charge carrier's concentration.

9.Seminar. Crystal lattice description.

10.Seminar. Crystal lattice description.

11.Seminar. Conductors and semiconductors properties.

12.Seminar. Conductors and semiconductors properties.

13.Seminar. Dielectrics and magnetic materials properties.

14.Seminar. Dielectrics and magnetic materials properties. Assesment.
