The course is oriented on ancient philosophy, its history and on topical aspect of ancient thinking.

1. Philosophy and thinking. Mythical, philosophical and scientific approaches. The first philosophers. Milesian school, Thales. Seeking for the basic principle (arche), reductionism.
2. Pythagoras and his school, concepts introduced by the Pythagoreans, present-day residues of Pythagoreism.
4. Ideas of Heraclitus, dynamical approach to the word. Comparision to the Eastern philosophy.
5. The school of Eleya, problems with methodology of cognition. Determporalisation.
6. Further natural philosophers (Anaxagoras, Empedocles).
7. Atomism, its origin and consequences. The absolute determinism and freedom, problems of materialism.
8. The crisis of knowledge, the Sophists. Measure of thing, ancient atheism. 9. The life and death of Socrates. Socrates and Sophists, method of dialogue, the imperfect Socratic schools
10. The Megarians, the paradox of the Liar, Cynics, Hedonic school
11. Plato, his life and philosophy. The realm of Forms. The allegory of the cave, ideal state or totality?
12. Aristotle, his logic and physics. Scholastic.
13. Epicureism, the concept of parenclisis. Stoicism, stoic morality, stoics logic and theory of knowledge. Logos. Skepticism (Pyrrho)
14. Philosophy in Alexandria, Eucleides, patristic (Augustine, Boethius)
