Industrial Control Systems and Communications (35PSS)
Lecturer:
Tutor:
Supervisor:
Department of Control Engineering
Synopsis:

Subject Industrial control systems and communications deals with automation in industry at the technology level. The main emphasis is put especially on the application of programmable logic controllers and industrial communication networks - hardware equipment, software approach types in higher level and their modelling and verification. Students get information about testing of Profibus communication. The basic knowledge of PLCs (Programmable logic controllers) is necessary.

Requirements:

Programmable logic controllers

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Methods of PLC programming, special features of programmable logic controllers.

2. Diagnostics, asynchronous events processing.

3. PLC programming according to IEC 61131.

4. Communication networks, structure of communication protocols, ISO OSI model.

5. Data link layer analysis of an industrial communication protocol (fieldbus protocol).

6. Higher layers of an industrial communication protocol (application, user).

7. Distributed control systems. Hierarchical model of control.

8. Interconnection of visualisation and control systems.

9. Methodical control system design concerning their reliability and security.

10. Deterministic and nondeterministic modelling and verification.

11. System verification and availability.

12. Methods of increasing the control system reliability

13. An example of communication protocol verification.

14. Other industrial communication protocols.

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. PLC programming.

2. Applications for lower-performance PLCs.

3. PLC connected to a fieldbus as a slave.

4. Graphical programming environment.

5. Configuration of a PLC as a fieldbus master. Diagnostic tools. Mutual PLC communication.

6. Assessment of tasks of laboratory model control and communication protocol analysis.

7. Work on assessed tasks (communication protocol analysis, laboratory model control).

8. Consultation about laboratory model control.

9. Consultation about laboratory model control.

10. Consultation about communication protocol analysis.

11. Assessment of tasks of modelling and verification of control systems.

12. Consultation about control system modelling.

13. Consultation about control system verification.

14. Comparing results of verification with the expected behaviour properties of a control system.
