Synopsis:

Types of processor architectures, one-chip and multiple-chip computers, functional blocks on chip and in environment. Special blocks and special procedures (counter-timer and its functions, interrupt and DMA control, PWM output, watch dog, etc.). CISC, RISC. DSPs (fixed point and floating point arithmetic, support for DSP algorithms). Parallel computers (SISD, MIMD, SIMD, etc.). Transputers. Data flow driven computers. Artificial neural nets. Structures designed in accordance with procedures of data processing.

1. Architecture of a processor, one- and multi-chip systems

2. Phases of instruction cycle, timing of different phases

3. Interfacing of memory, I/O, cashe - its timing

4. RISC processors, comparison with CISC

5. Parallel and serial internal buses in microcomputers

6. Co-processors, multipliers, vector processors and similar co-operating blocks

7. Algorithms influencing the processor architecture

8. Digital signal processor(DSP) - fixed point and floating point DSPs

9. Parallel structures, transputers, other parallel computers

10. Algorithms and paradigms of artificial neural nets(ANN), implementation

11. Hardware structures implementing algorithms of ANN

12. Digital processors implementing 2-D signal processing (image processing)

13. Application of DSPs in speech and image processing

14. Advances and trends in the processor design

1. Class - introduction - data sheets for digital processor, choice and application

2. Class - steps in design of system using microprocessor technology

3. Class - individual project (IP), study of specific features of several microprocessors

4. PC lab - IP realisation, study of information sources - internet and local server sites
