Synopsis:

Basics of communication, channel schema and capacity. Transmission environment. Radio communication. Analog and digital modulations. AM and FM mono and stereo broadcasting. TV principles and standards. Digital audio and video broadcasting. Concepts and properties of radio transmitters and receivers. Radio positioning and navigation. Mobile communications.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Communication basics, channel general schema and capacity

2. Analog modulation: amplitude, frequency and phase (spectra, energ. and noise parameters)

3. Digital modulation: ASK, FSK (MSK), PSK, QAM (spectra, constellation diagrams)

4. Passive elements of radioelectronic devices, their properties

5. Active elements of radioelectronic devices, their properties

6. Narrow-band and wide-band RF amplifiers

7. Oscillators, mixers, modulators a demodulators, phase lock loop (PLL)

8. Concepts and properties of radio receivers

9. Concepts and properties of radio transmitters

10. Terrestrial AM, mono and stereo FM broadcasting, basics of digital radio broadcasting

11. Analog TV (NTSC, PAL, SECAM) and basics of digital TV (MPEG, OFDM)

12. Satellite and optical transmission of radio and video signals

13. Basic principles of radio positioning and navigation

14. Basic principles of mobile communication systems

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Tasks about RF transmission lines: matching, impedance as a function of line length

2. Main parameters of RF amplifiers: matching, gain, stability

3. Main noise parameters of RF amplifiers: noise figure, Friis relation for cascaded blocks

4. Analog and digital modulations - modulated signal representation, spectra

5. Source and channel coding - DPCM, convolutional and block codes

6. Satellite communication systems - system basic parameters and equations

7. Basic radar calculations - radar equation, signal representation and spectra

Study Objective:

In an encyclopedic way, to learn students basics of communication technique.
