Synopsis:

This course provides students with basic information on the methods used in Computer-Aided Design of microwave and/or electrooptic circuits and networks. While lectures bring insight into the methods, computer labs help students to get familiar with current design programs. Real designs are carried out by the students. Methods of noise analysis and signal distortion modelling in transmission channels. Nonlinear circuits computer analysis and optimization.Using of electromagnetic simulators in circuit design.

Requirements:

PC knowledge.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. CAD systems for professional use

2. Fundamentals of system design

3. Noise parameters of active and passive circuits and its implementation into CAD

4. Low noise circuit design

5. Methods of noise analysis

6. Signal distortion in transmission channels - terms and definitions

7. Signal distortion in transmission channels - CAD and modelling

8. Finite precision arithmetics, numerical stability, conditioning of algorithms

9. Realisation of numerical algorithms using a real computer

10. Nonlinear circuit analysis - Harmonic balance, Volterra series

11. Nonlinear circuit modelling

12. Computer aided optimization of nonlinear circuits

13. Time-Domain analysis of electromagnetic fields - FDTD, TLM

14. Latest advances in CAD methods, new programs on the market
