The purpose of this lecture is to introduce the undergraduate students to the study of the physical properties of solids.

Requirements:

Elementary quantum mechanics and statistical physics

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Elements of quantum theory of solids. ^^2. Bonding and vibrations of atoms in solids. ^^3. Structure and properties of crystals. ^^4. Lattice defects. ^^5. Diffusion in solids. ^^6. Physics of metals and alloys. ^^7. Physics of dielelectrics ^^8. Physics of semiconductors ^^9. Magnetic properties of solids ^^10. X-ray, neutron, and electron diffraction.
