Synopsis:

This subject informs students about public cellular radiotelephones (GSM), cordless telephones (DECT), radiopaging systems (ERMES) and private land mobile radio systems (TETRA etc.). The subject indicates also consecutive convergency all mentioned systems to universal global mobile telecommunication systems (UMTS, FPLMTS, IMT- 2000, MBS). Some technological problems are presented too.

1. Elementary knowledge of the land mobile communication systems

2. The basic structures of the land mobile communication systems

3. Methods of the signal processing used in the mobile communication

4. Review of the public cellular radiotelephone systems

5. Public cellular radiotelephone system GSM - architecture

6. Public cellular radiotelephone system GSM - performance and services

7. Cordless telephones CT2 and DECT, performance and services

8. Public radiopaging systems RDS, system ERMES

9. Private mobile radio (trunked radio TETRA)and radio data networks

10. Radiotelephone systems in USA (standards IS-54, standard CDMA IS-95)

11. European universal mobile telecommunication system UMTS (ETSI)

12. European mobile broadband system MBS

13. International mobile telecommunication IMT 2000 (ITU), FPLMTS system

14. Technology of the land mobile communication systems

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. Basic measurement of mobile analog radiotelephone handsets (S/N, CIR ,...)

2. Basic measurement of mobile digital radiotelephone handsets (BER, ...)

3. Monitoring functions of the GSM mobile handsets

4. Basic and supplementary services supported by GSM system

5. The DECT cordless telephone: operation, supported services, basic measurements

6. The ERMES paging receivers: operation, supported services, basic measurements

7. The trunked radio (TETRA): operation, supported services, basic measurements

8. Computer modelling of the cellular radio systems

9. CAD applications in the cellular radiotelephone structures planning

10. Advanced methods of increasing the cellular systems traffic capacity

11. Monolithic technology (MIC, MMIC) applications in land mobile communication systems

12. Visit of GSM operator workplace I

13. Visit of GSM operator workplace II

14. Visit of radiopaging ERMES operator
