Introduction to electric apparatus. Switching AC and DC circuits. Basic theory and characteristics of arcs. Short term and long term switching arcs. Interaction between turn-off devices and switching circuits. Recovery voltage. Switching- off small inductive and capacitive currents. Switching arcs in various environments. Basic properties of switching and protection devices.
