Lecturer:
Jiří Vodrážka (gar.)
Tutor:
Jiří Vodrážka (gar.)
Supervisor:
Department of Telecommunications Engineering
Synopsis:

The lectures are focused basically on metallic lines and its application in local and access networks. The optical fiber is more and more frequently used in these areas, but broadband transmission on the metallic lines is still actual and perspective. The base themes in the lectures are line parameters and crosstalk modeling, spectral management and crosstalk cancelation.

Requirements:

Participation in the measurements and the incorporation of the results, the development of individual project.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Transmission network, hierarchy, media. ^ 2. Model of network, topology, using of graphs. ^ 3. Performance monitoring, bit error rate analysis, AWGN noise impairment. ^ 4. Network plans, plan of transmission parameters. ^ 5. Metallic lines, modeling of parameters. ^ 6. Modeling of inhomogeneous line. ^ 7. Crosstalk, unbalance of lines, NEXT and FEXT models. ^ 8. Spectral management in the cables, transmission capacity of metallic lines. ^ 9. Broadband transmission on line in LAN. ^ 10. Broadband transmission on line in access network. ^ 11. Optical access networks. ^ 12. Crosstalk cancellation, VDMT modulation. ^ 13. Theoretic limits of metallic lines.

Syllabus of tutorials:
Study Objective:

Students will learn how to calculate transmission quality parameters, model line properties, and estimate the theoretical information capacity.
