Synopsis:

Subject Spectacle Technology introduces students to technology and materials used in the production of glasses and their individual components. Students will learn about the materials used in spectacle optics - their composition, chemical and technological properties, processing characteristics, behavior under various conditions and machining properties. Furthermore, the properties and conditions of technological processes used for processing these materials into different functional parts of spectacles - spectacle lenses and frames. In the practical part of the exercise, students will performe practical glasses production.

Requirements:

The requirement for the credit of the course is participation in practical exercises where students must master the production of glasses given parameters. To perform theoretical exam are then necessary knowledge of lectures substance and practical experience with the behavior of optical materials.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Basic mechanical characteristics of materials

- strength and flexibility

- Hooke's Law

- Tensile strength, yield strength

- Basic deformation characteristics of materials

- Calculations of deformation - tension, compression, bending beam, shear

2. Overview and classification of the technological operations

Technological processes: cutting, turning, milling, drilling, reaming, grinding, polishing, cutting

3. Forming technological processes:

Rolling, drawing, cutting, bending, straightening, injection molding, casting

Joining techniques:

Detachable joints, soldering, adhesive bonding, welding, sealing, casting, rapid prototyping

4.Technical materials and their properties - glass - types, optical properties, mechanical properties, density, production

- Plastics - thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers, photochromic

- Glass transition, the effect of temperature on the mechanical properties of plastics

- Production of polymers

5.Technical materials and their properties - metals - aluminum alloys

- Brass, Monel, Nickel silver

- Titanium, aluminum, stainless steel, gold, Nitinol, natural materials

6. Manufacture of glass lenses - glass-melting semi-production

- Grinding of spherical surfaces lenses

- Grinding of cylindrical surfaces and surfaces of other shapes

- Drilling in glass, sandblasting

- Glass hardening

7. Plastic lenses production

- production of plastic lenses

- Dyeing plastic lenses

- Curing plastics

8. Production of multifocal lenses

- Glass lenses

- Plastic lenses

- Progressive lenses

9. Thin layers - the principle function of thin layers on the surface of the lens

- Thin layers - evaporation / sputtering, irrigation

10. Production of metal frames - the technology of rolling, bending, punching, pressing

- Surface treatment of metal frames

- Methods and materials, soldering and gluing frames

11. Manufacture of plastic frames - frames of plastic materials

- Processing of plastics - molding, injection molding, milling, welding, gluing

12. Contact lens production - contact lens materials, their properties

- Risks of use (for O2 permeability, inertness to the establishment of metabolites, the influence of environment on the material, etc.).

- Equipment maintenance (contents and effect of risk)

13. Fasetting and grinding of lenses - the reasons and the possibility of equilibration lenses

- Drilling of lenses

- Behavior of glass lenses

- Behavior of plastic lenses

14. The final test

5. Equilibration of spectacle lenses on semi-automatic cut

6. Splicing lenses in plastic frames

7. Splicing of lenses in metal frames

9. Treatment of metal frames

10. Drilling of spectacle lenses

11. The folding of spectacle lenses

12. soldering

13. Repair of spectacle frames

14. Edit spectacle frames

Study Objective:

The aim of study is to obtain a Spectacle of technology as knowledge of general mechanical characteristics of materials and their processing methods, both at the level of factory production of individual parts of the semi-glasses, and their modifications into the final shape of glasses with which students learn the practical training course.
