Synopsis:

The aim of the course is to provide students with an orientation not only in general problems of ethics, but especially in the problems of medical ethics and legal aspects related to the field of health and social care and the use of technology in these areas. The first block deals in particular with ethical issues related to human life, health, illness and dying and medical interventions. The second block builds on and explores the same issues from a legal perspective.

Requirements:

Form of verification of study results: oral examination.

As a standard, the course is taught in contact form and the course has lectures and seminars. In case the number of students is less than 5, the teaching can take place in the form of guided self-study with regular consultations. In this case, in addition to the examination, the student is required to produce a written study on the assigned topic.

For combined study:

Teaching takes the form of guided self-study with regular consultations. In addition to the examination, the student is required to prepare a written study on a given topic.

Syllabus of lectures:

Course content:

1. Ethics as a philosophical discipline, history of the field.

2. Fundamental ethics, basic categories of ethics.

3. Hermeneutics: principles and applications in medicine.

4. Sources and content of human action, rules of right action, ethics of interpersonal relations.

5. Medical ethics, Hippocratic Oath, medical codes and Czech laws.

6. Truth in medicine, informed consent, compulsory confidentiality.

7. Ethical issues in geriatrics, death and dying, palliative care.

8. Clinical protocols, evidence-based medicine.

9. Rights of the disabled, mentally ill.

10. Quality of life, self-sufficiency assessment

11. Convention on Biomedicine

12. Health Services Act

13. Social Services Act

14. EU Medical Device Regulation

Syllabus of tutorials:

Seminars will be in the form of independent work on a chosen topic from the course related to the topic of the dissertation. Subsequently, students will present their work at the seminars.
