Synopsis:

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic concepts related to research work - science, research, research, methodology, methodology, etc. It provides an overview of possible citation methods, information on where to find the necessary data. Furthermore, it pays attention to the issue of choosing a research topic, creating the aim of the qualifying work, the differences between a hypothesis and a research question. It explains the basic methods of scientific work, the principles of experimental design, data collection techniques, and pays attention to the interpretation of results. It also addresses issues of citation ethics and research design.

Requirements:

Form of verification of study results: oral examination.

As a standard, the course is taught in contact form and the course has lectures and seminars. In case the number of students is less than 5, the teaching can take place in the form of guided self-study with regular consultations. In this case, in addition to the examination, the student is required to produce a written study on the assigned topic.

For combined study:

Teaching takes the form of guided self-study with regular consultations. In addition to the examination, the student is required to prepare a written study on a given topic.

Course content:

1. Introduction to the methodology of scientific work

2. Ethical principles in scientific work

3. Design of experiments, experimental protocol, evaluation of results

4. Scientific communication and its written genres, techniques of scientific writing

5. Publishing in a journal in terms of editorial practice, evaluation of scientific work

6. Rhetoric and culture of the spoken word

7. Lecturing skills - how to capture and hold the attention of your audience

8. A sample lecture for the general public

9. Intellectual property and its commercialization

10. Research funding, grant system in the EU and the Czech Republic

11. Presentation of scientific results in the form of poster presentations

12. Information resources for science, research and education

13. Academic Writing in English

14. Analysis and evaluation of selected articles, analysis and evaluation of selected lectures and posters

Syllabus of tutorials:

Seminars will focus on student presentations, analysis of publications (articles, conference papers, etc.) prepared by students.
