Synopsis:

Lectures will cover all types of detectors used in modern nuclear and particle physics. Topics include principles of construction of particular types of detectors, materials used for their construction, ways of using and constrains. Emphasis is given also to electronic detector control and voltage suppliers.

Requirements:
Syllabus of lectures:

1. Basic detector characteristics – destructive and non-destructive methods of detection, resolution

2. Basic detector characteristics – detection efficiency, dead time, radiation hardness

3. Scintilation detectors - organic and inorganic scintilators, crystal and plastic scintilators, liquid scintilators

4. Scintilation detectors – photomultipliers, hybrid, position sensitive detectors, MCP; lightguides and wavelength

shifters; photocathodes

5. Gaseous detectors - MWPC, MSGC, GEM, sTGC, (M)RPC

6. Gaseous detectors – Drift chambers and TPC, Micromegas

7. Semiconductor detectors - APD, CCD, SiPMT

8. Semiconductor detectors - SSD, SPD, SDD

9. Hardware detector control – distributed systems EPICS and SCADA, communication protocols CANbus, Modbus

10. Hardware detector control - OPC, SNMP, RS232, MQTT, voltage suppliers
