Synopsis:

Historical outline of applications, review of interaction of radiation with a matter, radiation sources, detectors and instrumentation, evaluation of radionuclide measurements, use of penetration and scattering of radiation beams, selected radioanalytical methods, tracer methods, radionuclide dating, further possibilities for the use of ionizing radiation.

Requirements:

Required prerequisities are 16URF1 a16URF2.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Review of ionizing radiation application

2. Radionuclide sources of alpha, beta, gama and X-radiation

3. Neutron sources - radionuclide sources; neutron generators; nuclear reactor

4. Detectors and signal processing

5. Calibration curve and its relation to errors of measurement

6. Use of gamma and X-ray beam transmission

7. Use of photon scattering

8. Use of transmission and scattering of beta radiation - thicknesses, coatings, analysis of binary mixtures

9. Application of neutron transmission and scattering - radiography, moisture

10. Activation analysis

11. X-ray fluorescence analysis

12. Radioactive indicators

13. Radionuclide methods of dating

14. Radiation technologies
