Synopsis:

The course deals with optoelectronic sensors and their use in non-contact measurement systems based on the principles of videometry; problems of radiation and waves, their properties, behavior; optical projection system. The course deals with the lab. tasks, it is further solved, practically realized and presented the evaluated project of the optoelectric sensor.

Requirements:

Knowledge od electronics, passing B3B31EPO „Electronic devices and circuits“, BE5B31ZEO „Fundamentals of Electrical Circuits“ and B3B38SME „Sensors and Measurements“, or equivalent. A written test will verify the expected knowledge at the beginning of the semester.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction to videometry and non-contact measurement; optical radiation, its properties

2. Semiconductor radiation detectors, photodiodes, phototransistors, basic circuits

3. Semiconductor radiation sources, LED, LASER

4. Photodiode position sensors, triangulation sensors, sensors with PSD

5. MOS capacitor and PN junction as an optical radiation detector, CCD shift register, line sensors

6. Area CCD sensors, arrangement, the principle of function of individual types

7. CCD sensors - properties and analysis of errors, cameras, and functions (electric shutter, AES, AGC, Gamma cor.)

8. CMOS image sensor, arrangement, properties, types, control methods and reading of output information

9. Optical projection system, properties and behavior, use

10. Calculations for the design of optical systems used in videometry, limits of resolution

11. Video signal according to television standards, its digitization and transmission to a microcomputer, digital camera interface

12. Image sensors - real properties, errors, photon noise, sensor noise, resolution limits

13. Basic methods of information processing from image sensors for measuring the position and dimensions of objects

14. Illuminators and structured lighting sources for computer vision systems

Syllabus of tutorials:

In the first section of labs, students will acquaint themselves with basic optoelectronic sensors by measuring their parameters. Using this knowledge they will independently solve a project: Optoelectronic reflective sensor. This will include the design of electronic circuits, selection of component parameters and simulation of the whole system. Then the students will realize and debug this project and measure its parameters. An important part of this will be creating documentation throughout the project. The complete project will be presented and defended in class. The final section of labs will deal with image sensors, cameras, optical projection systems and other sensors for contactless measurement.
