Synopsis:

The course deals with processes occurring in the interaction of radiation with matter, detection and the effects of radiation on the structure and properties of solids.

•Types of rays.

•Models of rays interaction with solids and condensed matter - crystals.

•Breaking mechanism of energetic particles.

•Collision cascade.

•Ionization and Compton’s effect.

•Points and volume radiation damage.

•Influence of radiation damage on property of metals, insulators and semiconductor.

•Transmutation processing during irradiation.

•Ion implantation.

•Curing of radiation damage.

•Technical problems with measurements of radiation doses. Measurements of speed ion doses – conversion and direct measurements. Ray detectors and their application.

•Rays in machinery – technology of nuclear reactors, building of particles accelerators , defectoscopy.

Practice is focused on:

•the mathematical simulation of dopant distribution and point damage distribution in solids after irradiation

•measurements of ion dose and parameters of ion beam and electron beam.
