Tutor:
Eva Urbánková
Supervisor:
Department of Natural Sciences
Synopsis:

The course summarizes the knowledge of optics and optometry and is an introductory course that will show students the possibilities of their future profession. During the lectures, students will be acquainted with the basic concepts, development, current state and future of the field studied. Students will get acquainted with the basics of ray, wave and quantum optics using selected numerical problems. Emphasis is placed on getting acquainted with the content and basic concepts of further study.

Requirements:

Credit requirements:

Written proof of knowledge acquired in the final test at the last exercise, to successfully pass the credit it is necessary to obtain at least 50% of points from the test. The test will contain ten numerical examples (scoring 0-5 points) from the material covered in the exercises (maximum 50 points), a calculator is enabled for the test.

Test requirements:

The exam is written and covers the whole range of material covered in lectures in the form of ten theoretical questions, the evaluation of individual questions in the written part is 0-5 points, the maximum is 50 points. Points from the credit test are added to the point gain of the exam test and the subsequent grading is standard CTU.

Syllabus of lectures:

1. Introduction to optics and optometry

2. Division of optics - geometric, wave and quantum, basic concepts and relationships, light and its properties

3. Historical development of optometry, the current situation of the field in the Czech Republic and comparison with practice in the world

4. Optical devices, their principle and possibilities of use in the studied field

5. Related fields and their content 1: ophthalmology, orthoptics

6. Related fields and their content 2: visual therapist, ophthalmic optician

7. Legislation

Syllabus of tutorials:

1. The law of reflection

2. Basics of plane and spherical mirror imaging, imaging equations, sign convention

3. Thin lens, imaging by coupling and scattering, imaging equations

4. Geometrical optics - combination of imaging

5. Magnifier, microscope, telescope

6. Wave optics, wavelength and frequency of light, interference, diffraction

7. Test

Study Objective:

To acquaint students with the field of optics and optometry and show them the possibilities of their future profession.
