Synopsis:

The subject „Digital documentation of monumental objects“ deals with modern methods of documentation and visualization of monumental objects using methods of close digital photogrammetry, laser scanning, RPAS (remotely piloted aircraft system, so called drones) and measuring geodesy. Digital orthophotos, photo plans and vector plans, 3D models of objects including texture, sections and views are created. Part of the subject deals with virtual reconstruction of unpreserved or damaged parts of objects and their visualization. For the visualization methods, the environment of advanced computer technology and virtual reality are used. The last part of the course is a subsurface non-destructive survey of objects using GPR and magnetometer and analysis of the measured data.

Requirements:

basic knowledge of photogrammetry and remote sensing

Syllabus of lectures:

The course is designed as a set of consultations on modern methods of documentation of monumental objects.

1. Introduction to surveying methods

2. Coordinate systems, maps and cadastre

3. Classical geodetic methods of surveying an object (orthogonal and polar methods)

4. Imaging tools and software

5. Laser scanning, principle, methods, equipment and possible outputs

6. Processing of laser scanner data

7.Mobile laser scanner and processing of results

8. Photogrammetry, use of drones

9. Data processing from photogrammetric technologies

10. Creation of point cloud models

11. Editing of created models and their export

12. Virtual and augmented reality

13. Conversion of models to VR and AR

Syllabus of tutorials:

The course does not have exercises, but it includes the preparation of a semester project.

Study Objective:

To provide students with information on modern methods of documentation and visualization of monuments
