Synopsis:

The subject is focused on familiarization with modern measuring methods and their connection to calculation methods for determining micromechanical characteristics and their application for the description of materials. Cement composites and geopolymers are in the forefront of interest. The course will include the basics of the following areas:

-Experimental methods of micromechanics - mainly nanoindentation, atomic force microscopy and electron microscopy for different types of materials.

-Methods for determining micromechanical properties for heterogeneous microstructures in the submicron region.

-Models for describing the microstructure of building materials.

-Methods for calculating composite properties and homogenization (analytical, FEM, FFT).

-Calorimetry.

-Practical measurements and application to building materials.

Basic knowledge of the master's study of materials, chemistry and mechanics

Study Objective:

Familiarization with the basic methods of experimental micromechanics, instrumentation used in microstructure research and basic computational procedures in material microstructure analysis.
