Synopsis:

The course focuses on the use of numerical modelling methods in solving problems of groundwater flow and transport of pollution in saturated hydrogeological environments.

Requirements:

It is an advantage to take the compulsory course 143HPVO - not strictly necessary.

Syllabus of lectures:

Theoretical background of groundwater flow and pollutant transport

Mathematical description of steady and unsteady flow in heterogeneous rock environments

Mathematical description of solute transport in groundwater

Numerical methods for solving governing equations

Importance of numerical models for solving practical problems

Conceptual model development, choice of software

Input data, boundary and initial conditions, model development

Model calibration and verification

Simulation and evaluation of results

Syllabus of tutorials:

Individual work with specialized software.

Study Objective:

Ability to solve a practical problem using appropriate software tools.
