Synopsis:

Physiology of respiration, anatomy of the respiratory system. Mechanical parameters of the respiratory system, modeling of the respiratory system.

Respiratory failure, ARDS and ALI. Changes in mechanical parameters of the respiratory system. Mechanical ventilation and its adverse effects. Protective ventilation. Unconventional mechanical ventilation. High frequency ventilation ? principle, characteristics, gas exchange, control of high frequency ventilation, ventilation monitoring. High frequency ventilation ? modeling of intrapulmonary conditions. Computations and analyses in mechanical ventilation and respiratory care. Methods of high frequency ventilation ? technical solution of high frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV). Methods of high frequency ventilation ? technical solution of high frequency jet ventilation (HFJV).

Tracheal gas insufflation ? TGI, ITPV, technical solution, flow generators, monitoring and control. Monitoring of mechanical ventilation. Sensors of flow rate and their characteristics.

Monitoring of regional ventilation and lung diagnostics using ultrasound systems, CT, MRI and EIT. Extracorporeal methods ? extracorporeal membrane oxygenation ECMO, extracorporeal lung support ECLS. Other unconventional gas exchange techniques (partial and total liquid ventilation, HeliOx, permissive hypercapnia, normocapnic hyperventilation etc.).
