Synopsis:

The aim of the subject is to acquaint the PhD students with the specifics of academic English from the point of view of semantics, lexicology and syntax along with practicing the skills and expansion of vocabulary. The emphasis is placed on the accuracy of communication skills, both written and oral. The course also focuses on the elaboration of presentations and articles.

Requirements:

The examination consists of a written and oral part. The written part must be fulfilled to a minimum of 50%. The oral part of the examination consists of the discussion on a topic related to the field of study. It is possible to have maximum of three absences per semester and it is required for a student to make a presentation on a topic related to the field of study and present this during one of the lessons. In accordance with the Rules of the doctoral degree studies at FBME, the examination can be replaced by a recognized certificate of an English exam. The exam from this subject can also be replaced by elaboration of a written study to the discussion on the dissertation and its presentation in English.
